Help us build learning experiences you wish you had as a kid

Comini is a microschool in Bandra, Mumbai. CominiLAB is our learning app. Across both, children learn through play: stories, games, puzzles, interactive comics, building challenges, activities that teach you things without ever saying "and now here's the lesson." We need people who can design the play. This is for a remote role, though we would love for people to be based in/around Mumbai.

What is this role? You'll design learning experiences for children — experiences that work in two places: in the hands of children at our microschool, and inside CominiLAB, our app for families learning at home. Sometimes a story is a comic on a screen. Sometimes it's a facilitator reading aloud while twelve children sit in a circle and interrupt with questions. The medium changes. The design thinking is the same.
Learning first. Everything else second. This is a learning design role, not a visual design role. A beautifully illustrated worksheet is still a worksheet. A slick app with animations is still a drill if the only thing happening is "pick the right answer." We're interested in whether the experience itself is playful, joyful, and meaningful. Get the learning experience right. We can always make it prettier later. We can't retrofit meaning.
The Comini Way: The 4 Ms
The work You'll design stories (comics in the app, read-alouds in a classroom), games (played at a table or digitally inside CominiLAB), and puzzles (challenges that pull children in and won't let go). You'll watch children engage with what you've made. You'll see what actually works — which is often not what you expected. You'll redesign. A lot.
Stories, games, and puzzles — what you'll actually be making.
What this is not This is not a traditional edtech content role. We don't need someone to write question banks or create worksheets in a template. We start with play. We start with story. We start with something a child would actually want to do. The learning hides inside. If you remove all the learning and there's still something fun happening — that's the bar.
You'd be working directly with the founders Comini was founded by Priyanka Rai and Sai Gaddam. Priyanka runs the microschool and daily educational life. Sai is a computational neuroscientist (IIT Madras, PhD Boston University, published author) who leads curriculum and product. They started Comini for their own children and built it on actual research into how young minds learn.

Design learning experiences with us We're looking for people who can build stories, games, and puzzles that hide real learning so well a child never notices they're being taught. Not a game designer? Not a problem. We don't care about your title.
1
You think like a child (and you're proud of it) You remember what it felt like to be completely absorbed in something. You want to create that for someone else.
2
The best learning doesn't feel like learning A child pricing lemonade is doing fractions. A kid changing strategy at a card game is doing something no worksheet measures.
3
You can write a story, design a puzzle, or invent a game Maybe you write children's stories. Maybe you design board games. Maybe you're a teacher who never thought of it as "design."
4
You care about getting the details right The wording of a clue. The pacing of a reveal. Whether an activity takes fifteen minutes or forty.
5
You're comfortable working across languages Hindi and English to start. You don't need to be a linguist, but willing to think across languages.
6
You want to make something that matters You'd rather spend your time making a seven-year-old laugh while accidentally learning what "evaporation" means.

Play is how children make meaning

Play is the primary way children explore the world and construct meaning from it. A child building a marble run is doing physics. Children negotiating the rules of a made-up game are practising persuasion, fairness, and compromise.
Teams pick products, draw clues that suggest but don't depict them, then bet tokens on their guesses. Underneath the fun: strategic thinking, abstract reasoning, persuasion, probability, and collaborative debate. No child needs to be told to pay attention.
Come build learning experiences that teach children things they'll never forget This is early-stage, meaningful work. You'll shape what learning looks like — in a real school with real children, and in an app that brings it home.

We'd really love for you to fill out our form. But if you have a body of work that speaks for itself, reach out to sai at @comini.in with your portfolio and a brief (non-AI!) introduction. Subject line: Comini: Learning Experience Designer.
